If you’ve been budgeting for a parenting time modification response in Colorado, double-check the fee amount you wrote down. The instructions document got it wrong for nearly a year.

JDF 1406 i — the “How to Modify or Restrict Parenting Time” instructions packet — was revised on April 27, 2026. The change corrects the response filing fee to $146. The prior version (dated May 2025) listed an incorrect figure. The Colorado Judicial Branch published the updated PDF at a new path: 2026-04/JDF1406i.pdf, replacing the old 2025-05/JDF1406i.pdf.

This matters because JDF 1406 i isn’t just one form’s instructions. It’s the shared instructions document for three forms in the parenting time modification process:

  • JDF 1406 — Motion and Affidavit to Modify/Restrict Parenting Time
  • JDF 1406 i — How to Modify or Restrict Parenting Time (Instructions)
  • JDF 1423 — Stipulation Regarding Parenting Time Modification

All three forms’ instruction links on coloradojudicial.gov now point to the April 2026 revision.

When the $146 Fee Applies

The response fee isn’t something every parent in a parenting time case pays. It applies in two situations:

First, when this is the responding parent’s first filing in the case. If the other parent filed the motion and the responding parent has never filed anything in the same case, the court charges a response filing fee.

Second, when the responding parent files a counter-motion — requesting additional or different changes to the parenting plan beyond what the moving parent asked for. Simply filing a response that says “I agree” or “I disagree” with the original motion doesn’t always trigger the fee. But asking the court for your own modifications does.

The $146 amount applies specifically to the response. The initial filing fee for the parent who files the motion is separate and was not affected by this revision.

What Didn’t Change

The substance of the instructions themselves — the step-by-step guidance on how to fill out the forms, what to file, where to file, service requirements — appears unchanged. This revision was a fee correction, not a rewrite. The process for modifying parenting time in Colorado remains the same.

The forms themselves (JDF 1406 and JDF 1423) were not revised. Only the shared instructions document received a new version. If you already downloaded JDF 1406 or JDF 1423, those forms are still current. But if you downloaded the instructions before April 27, 2026, grab the updated version — the fee information in the old PDF is incorrect.

How We Found This

GoFile’s May 2, 2026 monitoring cycle flagged the JDF 1406 i revision after checking individual form pages against the self-help forms index. The May 2026 Forms Blotter (published May 1, 2026) was also reviewed during this check. We verified the updated PDF path and confirmed the corrected fee amount directly from the April 2026 revision of JDF 1406 i on coloradojudicial.gov.

Confirmed Unchanged Forms

All other tracked family law forms were confirmed present and unchanged as of our May 2, 2026 monitoring check:

JDF 1111 (Sworn Financial Statement), JDF 1403 (Motion to Modify Child Support), JDF 1404 (Stipulation to Modify Child Support), JDF 1405 (Order to Modify Child Support), JDF 1104 (Certificate of Compliance), JDF 84 (Notice to Terminate Income Assignment), JDF 1801 (Instructions for Income Assignment). JDF 1820 was previously discontinued and JDF 1821 was previously renamed — those changes are covered separately.
